About Jaxon
Not everyone learns the same way. Some learn effectively through books and hours of study. Others learn better by observing an experienced individual teach concepts. Some learn by actually putting concepts to the test for themselves.
With over 4 years of experience in tutoring chemistry at the university level, I have become proficient at adapting to various learning styles of students from all backgrounds and guiding them to a deeper understanding of chemical concepts.
I am currently in my second year of a Chemistry Ph. D. at Penn State. My research area is synthetic organic chemistry. During my time here at PSU I've had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of chemistry in the lab as a research assistant and in the classroom while serving as a TA for organic and general chemistry labs.
First off, I LOVE chemistry! There is chemistry in every aspect of our lives and everything comes down to atoms. Being able to study and gain more understanding of how our world works gives me great joy!
I've always thought that one of the foremost characteristics of a good teacher is an excitement for learning. I enjoy helping others to learn as much as I enjoy learning for myself!
I started teaching chemistry in 2017. The Tutoring Center at my university had just hired a new director. I had filled out an application online but with the turnover, many applications were lost. I went to the Tutoring Center in person and introduced myself to the director and stated my interest in tutoring. She interviewed me and hired me on the spot!
I have a B.S. in Chemistry from Southern Utah University. While pursuing my undergrad degree, I was able to work as a chemistry tutor for 3 years helping students of all levels to make the connections needed to be successful in chemistry classes and labs.
In my last year I was promoted to Tutor Mentor, which gave me the opportunity to assist other tutors in learning how to simplify difficult concepts for their students and to be a more effective tutor.
I was also the president of the Chemistry Club at the university, in this capacity I organized and carried out many community outreach activities such as science demonstrations for local elementary and middle school students. This taught me how to explain complicated subjects at a very simple level.
Starting Fall 2020 I will be pursuing a Ph.D. From Penn State in Organic Chemistry.

I believe that students learn most effectively in an environment in which they are comfortable. For this reason, I always start working with a new student by introducing a little bit about myself and getting to know them a bit too. This includes having them articulate their reasons for interest in chemistry tutoring and what styles of learning they believe are complementary to them.
I have worked with students of many different levels of tutoring needs. Some students seek me out after they have completed their homework and just wish to solidify concepts in their heads by discussing it with me.
I work with a lot of students who have given their best effort to solve their problems but need clarification.
I also work with a number of students who find themselves without much of an idea where to begin.
Obviously, when hiring a tutor you want to find someone who knows their stuff. But I think it's equally important to find someone who fits with your personality and helps you to gain confidence in your abilities as a learner!
My daughter, who is now almost 13 months old recently started to walk about 2 months ago. I was fortunate enough to capture the moment on film too with my wife present!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think students should ask themselves what they have done to facilitate their own individual learning before going to their teacher.

Jaxon went above and beyond as a tutor and truly made my organic chemistry experience one of passion and learning, instead of frustration. He asked me my learning style on our first session, and constantly used it in order to help me understand concepts. After working with Jaxon for 2 semesters I know that I would not have the chemistry knowledge I do today without him.
Jaxon helped me through Organic Chemistry by catering to my exact weak points in the course material. Additionally, he was able to explain each concept in-depth and produce practice problems for all concepts I was struggling with. He was very flexible with my schedule and molded his tutoring to fit my needs for the class.
Had a great experience with Jaxon! He was really knowledgeable and was always open to questions. I used him for Chem 212 and it worked wonders for my grade. Highly recommend.
He always try’s to explain things in words that make sense to you and works with you to make sure that you understand the knowledge so that he isn’t the only one doing the work and learning! Super nice and always willing to help.
I could tell that he had a lot of experience and chemistry knowledge, but he was always able to explain concepts in a way that I could understand. He was also very fun and personable, which made learning chemistry a little easier.
Jaxon is super knowledgeable and really good at explaining tough concepts! I would not have done well in chemistry without his help. He’s super personable and easy going and never made me feel stupid for needing some extra help. If I could give him 6/5 stars I would.
I have been a pre-medicine student at SUU for 3 years now. I have had to take chemistry classes that my previous college did not prepare me for. Jaxon has always been very helpful in explaining chemistry in the most simple form it can be explained. He always allowed me to get to the answer without just giving me the answer. He also helped explain chemistry in ways that us students could relate to it. He was always very encouraging, and throughout the years has asked me how I am doing in my chemistry courses. He has helped me so much.
Jaxon is so patient and helpful. He provided good feedback on how to fix the mistakes I’d made on my homework and let me chose the pace and material each session. He’s the best!!
Jaxon is the best tutor I’ve received instruction from. Out of all the tutors I’ve met with, he has made the biggest difference in my learning, and has helped me truly understand the material. He has so much experience In the field of chemistry, so he really does know his stuff. He was awesome to work with one on one, and was very patient and understanding of my questions and problems. Our tutoring sessions were so great and effective and I was able to succeed In my courses. I definitely recommend Jaxon for any chemistry course.
Jaxon was always so helpful and knew how to help me with every question I had! He is very patient and really makes sure you understand what he is teaching you. He is by far the best chemistry tutor I’ve had!!
