About Raymond
I am an MD/PhD student at New York University School of Medicine currently completing my dissertation in Cell Biology. I have always enjoyed and been committed to training students, including as a peer tutor in genetics during college at UNC-Chapel Hill and currently as a research mentor to undergraduate and master's students at NYU. I'm very passionate about passing on my experience and expertise to others in the same way my mentors have done for me. I'm very aware that people learn in different ways and at different rates and am, thus, always patient with students and allow their individual characteristics drive how I approach my teaching style.
I enjoy many things about the work I do. I'm a nerd so, as a medical student, I love studying human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Understanding the intricacies of how our bodies work fascinates me. But, I think even more so, I love communicating with patients and educating them about their health. As a researcher, I love designing and performing experiments as I tease apart any scientific question I might be trying to answer. As I gain knowledge and skills through experience, I love passing these traits onto younger students of mine. Nothing gives me more joy than witnessing their development as they become more proficient and independent in their work.
My first experience with teaching was as a Peer Tutor in Genetics at UNC-Chapel Hill. I was provided this opportunity because I excelled in this course. My most recent teaching has been in my research lab where I teach laboratory techniques as well as conceptual ideas surrounding our research. These include lessons on molecular biology and genetics, as well as other advanced disciplines we work with in the lab.
I have a Bachelor of Sciences in both Biology and Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am currently in a dual-degree MD/PhD program at the New York University School of Medicine where I am studying to receive both my medical degree (MD) as well as a doctorate in philosophy (PhD) in Cell Biology.

When I encounter a new student, I first try to get to know them and their background. I let them tell me the best way they can learn so that I can adapt my teaching style to fit their needs. I also like to have an understanding of their base knowledge so that I can teach to their level while also challenging them so that they can progress at a significant rate.
In college, I tutored peers who were my age. Currenlty, I teach and train Undergraduate as well as Master's students.
