About Sierra

Hi all! I am a passionate, well-rounded professional with over 7 years of experiences in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Plant Science, and more. I have experience in both research development and production biology. I received my BS in Biology with minors in Plant Science, Chemistry, and Geography. I have 3 years of post-graduate research with a focus in Molecular Biology. I am currently employed full-time as a Senior Business Analyst / Project Manager for a Biological/Pharmaceutical Product development company and oversee Laboratory projects from start to finish. I have dedicated my career to the Biological Sciences and strive to continue down this path. I love to share my knowledge and passion in this field with others!

My first teaching experience started when I was a teenager as part of my youth group. I taught children ages 3 to 8 years old about outdoor survival and nature. My teaching experience continued during the final year of my undergraduate degree. I assisted professors in 100 level lab courses. During my time doing post-graduate research, I continued as a teacher's assistant for undergraduate courses as well as took on laboratory interns. I want to continue to share my knowledged and experience with others.

I have a BS in Biology. I also have 3 years of post-graduate research experience in the Biological Sciences. I have over 7 years of professional experience in the Biological Sciences. I am also currently pursuing my MS in Data Analytics to diversify my abilities to work with Biological data.

About the lesson

With a new student, I like to begin by establishing a comfort level with each other. I want them to feel comfortable to ask any questions or reach out in any way that will help them learn. I also like to ask a few questions to establish their preferred learning method, as well as establish goals for themselves and each lesson. We all learn differently, and I find it critical to embrace that diversity.

I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds. My past students have consisted of those with a strong understanding to those who were new to a subject. I also have experience with managing the struggles of ADHD, as it has been my own personal struggle.

As a student looking to hire an expert in Biological Sciences, you clearly need someone who is well-versed in the topic. But you also need someone who can allow the student to feel comfortable to ask any questions on the subject. An expert with the virtue of patience is also critical for this topic. There are so many sub-topics involving biology, and it can become very indepth. By being patient, you will encourage the student to truly learn the topic and engage with you as the expert.

I recently made the leap to move to Maine from South Dakota. It was a big decision, but it has been so enlightening. I have been able to see a new part of the US,d as well experience living on the coast for the first time. The views of the Appalachian Mountains and evergreen forests are breathtaking. I look forward to discovering more of Maine!
