About Micaela

I'm a secondary science teacher with several years of tutoring experience. I began tutoring in high school, and gained valuable experience tutoring in Princeton while completing my undergraduate degree in biology. Since then, I've received my masters in education and focused on teaching 9th and 11th grade. My passion for youth development and education has led me to volunteer with children of all ages and has allowed me the opportunity to tutoring English, Spanish, Math, and Science. Please do not hesitate to reach out and ask any questions!

I originally started tutoring English in high school to elementary school kids as a volunteer opportunity. During all four years of college, I worked with a family in Princeton to tutor their three students in every subject. This opportunity allowed me to learn a lot about youth development and what it requires to encourage and support students that come with a different skill sets.

I have a undergraduate degree in biology from Rider University and a graduate degree in Urban Education from University of Denver. These degrees have allowed me to teach high school biology and physics, as well as tutor students in general education.

About the lesson

Creating a relationship in order to understand their motivations, their strengths, and where they need support is key to teaching. Because of this, I like to focus on getting to know the student the first couple of weeks. Once our relationship is strong, building a routine with the appropriate supports is my next step. I want to ensure that I am personalizing my tutoring in oder to support my students to reach their goals!

I have worked with a variety of students. Below are short descriptions.

- Students with ADHD and ADD

- Students with autism

- Students who are gifted and talented

- Students with IEP's

- Students in general education

Look for someone who motivates you, but also challenges you to be your best. Look for someone who is passionate about what they are teaching you. Look for someone that makes learning fun.

Think of a time you struggled to be successful and what got in the way of your success. Ask that teacher how they would support you in overcoming that struggle.
