About Tomin
I am a recent Ivy Legue graduate (Columbia '19, degree in Computer Engineering) who has experience teaching to a wide variety of people of different educational backgrounds and of different ages. Looking for college and high school students. I started teaching in 2015 with a 7th grade remedial math class where I taught my students simple fractions, then took my first job tutoring one-on-one for an 8th grader - who actually needed to be taught advanced algebraic skills! Since then I have tutored mainly college students in their twenties and thirties in Calculus and Algebra, and in particular in Computer Science courses. My students have told me that they most appreciate my ability to break things down when necessary, and also when to push them and accelerate their progress when they improve. Here to help you learn how to learn effectively for your specific needs!
My favorite thing about teaching making my students realize that they are able to work through their difficulties and improve if they approach the material in the way that is most suited to them. I like to remind people: nothing is "too hard" or "overly challenging" in and of itself. You are a smart and capable person with the desire to learn! That's all you need.
Both of my parents were special education high school teachers- I guess teaching runs in the family.
I have taken core collegiate level Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics courses at Columbia Engineering.
