About Ellie

Hi I'm Ellie! I’m a Biological Sciences student at the University of Edinburgh with a passion for helping students understand and enjoy science and maths.
I have always enjoyed learning and sharing my knowledge with others, which is why I have spent the past 5 years tutoring students through Explore Learning. Supporting students as they overcome challenges and gain confidence has been one of the most rewarding parts of my experience.
Alongside my studies, I am working towards a future career in teaching, with the aim of becoming a teacher. I love helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude towards learning.
I believe that a supportive and encouraging learning environment is essential for students to succeed. My goal is to make lessons engaging, approachable, and tailored to each student, helping them feel more confident in their abilities and achieve their goals.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring focuses on building confidence, improving understanding, and helping students develop the skills they need to succeed.

I offer online lessons for:
• Year 7–9 Maths and Science
• GCSE Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Combined Science
• A Level Biology and Chemistry

I structure my lessons around each student’s individual needs, focusing on:
• Breaking down difficult topics into smaller, manageable steps
• Explaining concepts clearly using examples and practical applications
• Working through practice questions to build confidence and exam technique
• Identifying areas for improvement and creating a plan to help students progress

My lessons are typically 1 hour long and are designed to include:
• Introducing and explaining new concepts
• Guided practice with support and feedback
• Independent practice to build confidence
• Reviewing key areas and answering any questions

I have 5 years of tutoring experience at Explore Learning, supporting students from primary level through to GCSE in Maths and English, including GCSE Maths. This has helped me develop a patient and adaptable teaching style, allowing me to support students with different abilities and learning styles.

I aim to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence in their abilities.
