About Yesenia
I have been tutoring for about 4 years now. I am experienced in assisting students in math subjects such as Intermediate Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. I have tutored students in groups as well as one-on-one.
As a college transfer student and a STEM major, I am able to relate and connect with students. One of the most rewarding feeling is seeing my students grow academically. Based on experience, the students I've worked with not only learn the subject matter, but they acquire more effective ways of learning that they can carry on throughout the rest of their college career.
I am currently employed by El Camino College in the Mathematical Sciences division for the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program. I have been an SI Coach for three years now. At the start of every semester, the management team sets up scheduled training days for new and experienced coaches. In these trainings we discuss the tasks and responsibilites that come with being an SI Coach and effective ways of running our sessions so that students get the most out of SI.

On the first day of meeting a student, I ask a series of questions to evaluate the student and figure out how I can better assist them. I usually ask basic information about the course such as the required textbook, syllabus, course schedule, exams, and homework. Once I have an idea of how the course is structured, then I move on to more self-reflective questions to establish where the student's strengths and weaknesses lie in.
