About Valentina

Hello!

My name is Valentina Vanos and I am currently working on a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health and Natural Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. I have extensive experience in academic and peer-tutoring spanning from High School to my current undergraduate years while maintain a stagnant place on the Dean's List. I have experience in customizing lesson plans targeting mathematics, grammar, core sciences, and SAT prep for proficiency on the middle and high school level. I have also peer tutored AP class such as Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, World History, United States History, and both English Literature and Language. I really enjoy working with kids and I am planning on pursuing a career in Pediatric Medicine.

I have four younger sisters, so naturally I have always worked with kids. Because of my familial background I have gravitated to jobs that focus on working with kids and young adults throughout my professional career. There is a sense of trust and kindess earned that is often lacking in other proffessions.

I have been a peer tutor since Freshmen year of high scool and have continued into my college career. I also TA a section of General Chemistry here at Hopkins. I enjoy working with kids and while I am not pursuing a main career in teaching, it has always been a passion of mine.

I currently work with a Chicago based tutoring company virtually for two days every week. Here I work with 5-6 students every hour on varying subjects and varying grade levels. I was also a peer tutor at my local School District where I tutored kids in grades 5-11th for over four years. Their subjects ranged from high school placement tests to AP test prep. Lastly, I volunteer for the Tutorial Project at Johns Hopkins Unviersity where elementary school students come after school and we offer both tutoring services as well as various extra curricular activites.

About the lesson

I always try and get to know a new student within the first few sessions. I believe understanding both a students general study habits as well as their responses to their assignments can help me facilitate a more cohesive and positive learning environment.

I have worked with students from all socio-economic backgrounds as well as students with ADHD/ADD.

The best advise I have is to choose a tutor you think suits you both academically and mentally. You can have a great acadmeic tutor on paper, but they can also shatter your confidence in the subject or in school as a whole. It is important that your tutor uses positive reinforement and grows your passion for learning whilst providing aid.
