About Amanda

Hi, I'm Amanda! I have tutored standardized test prep (SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, AP Exams, GED, GRE, GMAT) for the last eight years, and have tutored subjects (Algebra I/II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics) for the last ten years! I have worked with students from middle school through college level, including adult students.

Throughout my experiences as a private and group tutor, I have learned the very best, and most effective, strategies and approaches to working with students at any level. Locally (I am based in Austin, Texas), I work almost exclusively with students at a STEM magnet high school, which has given me excellent experience with all AP courses, as well as the advanced curriculum.

My strength as a tutor comes from my patience, thorough explanations, and ability to meet students exactly where they are: there is no question too small or "silly"! I have great relationships with all of the students I tutor, and truly enjoy helping them achieve understanding and mastery in their classes. My specialties include math, science, and standardized testing. I have an excellent success rate, consistently helping my students to gain 300-plus point increases on their SAT Reasoning tests, and 5 points on the ACT. I do this by teaching the content on these tests, not just testing "tricks". This always results in higher score gains, better final results, and knowledge that students can take with them to future courses.

I absolutely love what I do, and most enjoy working with students who are motivated and committed to working toward their goals. I can move as quickly or slowly as you require, and will always make my first priority to empower you to reach your academic goals. Students often tell me that I explain things in a way that "makes it all seem so easy", and that they wish they'd met me sooner! Looking forward to meeting and working with you, too. :)

I began tutoring during college, helping my fellow students to navigate competitive and rigorous science and math course curricula.

I developed my approach to standardized test prep after studying for several standardized exams in my own academic journey, and identifying the need for an organized, structured approach.

I have been a private tutor and test prep instructor for the last 12 years, helping students ranging from middle school through college, and adults, better understand their curricula, and prepare for standardized tests and entrance exams.

I hold a BSS in Psychology from St. Edward's University where I also completed the premedical sciences trek.

For subject tutoring, I will work with you to identify any missing foundational knowledge gaps that may be contributing to your "challenge areas", and then teach you that content in a way that empowers and prepares you for future success.  From there, we will establish new, better study techniques to ensure that you stay ahead of the curve in your classes.

My approach to SAT prep is both holistic and systematic.  I will teach you the foundational skills that are tested on the SAT, show you winning strategies to boost your performance on test day, and ensure that you'll know the test- backward and forward- with effective practice problems, drills and tests.

Together, we will work to build your familiarity with and mastery of the SAT, so that you can reach your highest score.  Simply put: with my SAT prep methodology, you will be able to take your time, build confidence, and get it right.

Over the years, I have worked with high school students at magnet schools, STEM-based schools, and private high schools. I have also worked largely with adults students (post-graduate) preparing for entrance exams for their graduate studies.

In order to choose the best tutor to work with, it is imperative that a student become very clear about their goals and objectives for tutoring.

If you, as a student, can be clear about what you are looking to achieve, then you will be better able to assess whether a specific tutor can help you toward that goal.

Recently, I helped to prepare a client for his GMAT exam, and as a result, he achieved a significant score increase, was admitted into his first-choice program, and qualified for funding for his graduate education. It is always rewarding and fulfilling to be able to be a part of my clients' academic and professional journeys.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. Have I been able to identify exactly which topic(s) or content area(s) I am having the most trouble with?

2. Am I missing information that would help me fill in the gaps in my understanding?

3. Am I committed to practice, studying, and the additional effort required to move forward?
