About Ruth

I am passionate about science and love inspiring my students to get excited about the subject. I share my enthusiasm with them so they become motivated to work hard and do well because they enjoy what they’re studying. My lessons are always interactive and I tailor my teaching style to the individual to ensure that they get the most out of our lessons. I think that it is really important for the student to have a sense of ownership over their learning so I aim to work with them as collaboratively as possible. I have a calm and patient manner, working well with students at all levels. I am good at both breaking down concepts so they can be easily understood as well as challenging those students who can be stretched a bit beyond the GCSE syllabus. I always make sure that I give my students a solid foundation of knowledge that we can then build on together. I like to teach complicated concepts from first principles, ensuring that my students thoroughly understand the topic. I find that this gives them the tools to approach exam questions in a scientific and logical way rather than relying on recall. Throughout my lessons I maintain a focus on exam technique, encouraging my students to think in a way that will prepare them for their exams. I have extensive tutoring experience across the exam boards with excellent feedback from both my students and their parents. I teach all three sciences, at higher or foundation level, either together or in combination depending on the needs of my students.
