About Ally

Bonjour toi! I'm a native French speaker with over 5 years of experience teaching languages.

I grew up in the south of France and have lived in several French cities, including Lyon and Bordeaux. I studied politics at Sciences Po Bordeaux and also at the University of California, San Diego.

I love the diversity of the people I've met through teaching! I've taught complete beginners, intermediate and advanced learners, as well as people looking to improve their professional French, brush up on their French, or simply explore the language and culture.

Having learned several languages myself (English, Spanish, German and a little bit of Portuguese), I understand the challenges that come with learning a new one (hello, faux amis!).

Passionate about French culture, I love diving into its music, cinema, and literature and I’d be thrilled to share that passion with you!

About the lesson

I've been living in the US between California and NY for 8 years now, so I can anticipate some of the challenges English speakers face when learning French (hello, faux amis!).

I love French literature, cinema, and music and I'm very interested in politics, but I can talk about pretty much anything! I'm happy to adapt to your interests and goals, whether you'd like to work on grammar, focus on conversation, or find a balance between the two.

We'll practice speaking, work on pronunciation, and explore French through videos, music and texts, so you can get a feel for how French is actually spoken. I can also recommend podcasts, radio stations and other resources to help you keep learning between lessons.

I focus on building speaking confidence, not just memorizing grammar rules, and I'm very excited to meet you and help you on your journey to fluency! :)

I have studied French for 2 years, but hadn't spoken it for so long that I felt embarrassed doing it again. However, Ally made the session feel so natural and entertaining that my concerns were instantly blown away. Ally has an unbelievable energy that makes you want to chat about all sorts of topics, and she is definitely the right choice if you're looking for a long-term language partner (who doesn't want to have fun while learning, right?). I would recommend her to anybody who wants to practice their French casually or formally—she is a true chameleon in that sense! ;)
