About Benedict

I am a graduate of the University of St Andrews and a Professional Maths Tutor, specialising in 11+, 13+ and GCSE Mathematics.

With over 200 hours of tutoring experience, I have a proven track record of helping students secure the grades they need while also building long-term confidence in Maths. Parents consistently find that their children become more motivated, less anxious, and better prepared for exams after working with me.

My passion for teaching is rooted in my own experience. As someone who grew up with dyslexia, I understand how easily a child can feel discouraged by academic challenges. The patient support of a tutor helped me overcome a fixed mindset and realise my potential. That’s why I believe strongly in creating an encouraging environment where every student feels capable of succeeding.

In my lessons, I focus not only on subject knowledge but also on mindset. Maths is often seen as a subject where you either “have it” or you don’t—but I show students that ability comes from practice, problem-solving, and curiosity. This approach helps them gain both the skills and the resilience to face challenges with confidence.

Alongside my tutoring, I bring leadership and mentoring experience from my career as a British Army Captain. This background has given me a calm, structured, and supportive teaching style that reassures parents their child is in safe hands.

Whether your child is preparing for entrance exams, aiming to boost GCSE results, or simply needs to regain confidence in Maths, I provide tailored lessons that deliver both academic progress and personal growth.

About the lesson

Each lesson is tailored to meet the individual needs of your child, with a focus on both academic progress and confidence building.

I begin by meeting with parents to understand your goals and priorities for your child’s education. This ensures we are aligned on the outcomes you want to see, whether that’s exam success, improved grades, or renewed confidence in Maths.

In the first sessions, I often use past paper questions and problem-solving exercises to assess how your child approaches challenges. This helps me identify strengths, gaps in knowledge, and common patterns in their thinking. From there, I adapt my teaching to suit your child’s unique learning style—whether they learn best through visual explanations, step-by-step practice, or interactive problem-solving.

After each lesson, I provide constructive feedback to parents, outlining what we covered, how your child responded, and where we will focus in the coming weeks. This ongoing communication ensures you are always kept up to date with progress and the plan for future lessons.

The result is a structured, personalised approach that not only prepares students for exams but also builds lasting confidence and independence in Maths.

Benedict, tutored my daughter from March right up until her GCSE maths papers. My only regret is we didn’t find him sooner!
My daughter suffered with low self belief and a total lack of confidence, compounded by a late SEN diagnosis. Benedict not only worked on her maths ability but her self belief, to see the change in a few short months was nothing but incredible. I can not thank him enough for all of his help and support. He was super flexible and always managed to squeeze us in on short notice. I expected some complaints from my daughter about the extra study but there were none, surely a great indication. She took pride showing him that she now knew and understood a particular topic on his recap time at the start of the next lesson. Our time with Benedict was all positive and we would highly recommend him.
