About JERMAINE
Mathematics has been a passion of mine for many years, and I have dedicated myself to helping students develop the knowledge, confidence, and problem-solving skills necessary to succeed. My tutoring journey commenced during high school, where I regularly assisted classmates and later volunteered through the National Honors Society’s tutoring program, helping students in Algebra I through Pre-Calculus. Those experiences confirmed that I genuinely enjoy teaching and seeing students overcome challenges that once seemed impossible.
To this day, I work with students as a middle-school teacher assistant, where I provide academic support and assist learners with diverse educational needs. Working in an educational environment every day has strengthened my communication, patience, adaptability, and ability to explain complex mathematical concepts in a clear and structured manner.
I believe every student is capable of succeeding when given the right guidance and encouragement. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing independent thinking, and building lasting confidence in mathematics. Rather than focusing solely on obtaining the correct answer, I emphasize understanding the concepts behind each solution so students can apply their knowledge with confidence in future coursework.

Every student learns differently, which is why I tailor each lesson to the individual’s learning style, current level of understanding, and academic goals. Rather than encouraging students to memorize procedures, I focus on helping them understand the reasoning behind each mathematical concept. My objective is to build lasting confidence by strengthening conceptual understanding & mastery, logical reasoning, and efficient problem-solving skills that students can apply independently in unfamiliar situations.
A typical lesson commences by identifying the student’s strengths, areas of difficulty, and any misconceptions that may be preventing progress. From there, we work through concepts step by step using clear explanations, guided examples, and progressively challenging practice problems. Throughout each session, I encourage questions, critical thinking, and multiple solution methods whenever appropriate, so students gain a deeper understanding rather than simply arriving at the correct answer.
My experience extends beyond private tutoring. I began helping classmates during high school before partnering with the National Honors Society’s tutoring program, where I assisted students in Algebra I through Pre-Calculus.
