About Elias

I am a 28 year old mathematics, physics, and computer science teacher. Since September of 2015 I have worked as the lead A-Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Computer Science teacher at Elian’s British School La Nucia, which is a small private english language school on the Meditteranean coast in Spain. In June of 2020 in anticipation of the worsening COVID-19 crisis, I moved back to the United States to be closer to my family, but I am still teaching Further Mathematics and Computer Science remotely. In addition to being a full time teacher, I have also been tutoring both in person and online for 14 years.
In 2015 I graduated with a BS in Mathematics and a BS in Physics at the University of Georgia. I also completed graduate level work in Mathematical Investigation at Universidad de Valencia in Spain, and an additional seven graduate level courses in computer engineering through the Open University of Catalonia. I am currently pursuing a PhD in mathematics from the University of Vermont.
In addition to having a deep love of high level mathematics as a student, I am also a deeply passionate teacher. I believe that I have unique methods of explaining abstract concepts in a way that decomplexify them. I also make an attempt to approach all of the content that I teach through intuition rather than lists of rules without explanation. I make frequent use of modern visualization software, and when applicable programming languages such as mathematica and python.
Although English is my native language, I am fluent in Spanish and conversational in several other languages. I have strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Despite mathematics and physics being an integral part of my life, I am not only a science geek. I am also a passionate musician. I have been playing instruments of all kinds since I was a young child, and even as an adult I spend hours every week playing and recording music. When I am not playing music or studying, I am usually outside hiking, camping, scuba diving, or something similar.

About the lesson

As a teacher, I focus heavily on mathematical intuition. It's surprising to many students how complex problems in mathematics can often be solved by using just a bit of logic and occasionally a simple diagram. I offer a range of class styles. I'm happy to simply go over homework problems that my students are having trouble with, and I'm also happy to teach any of the following fully contained courses:
