About Emily

My name is Emily, and I am a dedicated and experienced math tutor with an Associate Degree in Business Administration and over three years of experience working with students from kindergarten through high school. I specialize in arithmetic, mathematics, and algebra, helping students build strong foundations while gaining confidence in their abilities.

I have worked professionally as a tutor with IQ Zone Plus, where I gained valuable experience supporting students with different academic needs, and I am currently working online with Varsity Tutors. In addition, I proudly offer my tutoring services to the Doral community through my own educational company, Skolly.

I approach tutoring with patience, structure, and professionalism. My goal is not only to help students complete assignments, but to ensure they truly understand concepts and can apply them independently. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s academic level, learning style, and goals, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes.

I have experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including difficulties with attention, focus, and comprehension. By using clear explanations, visual aids, and step-by-step problem-solving strategies, I help students stay engaged and make consistent progress.

I take pride in being reliable, organized, and committed to my students’ success. Whether a student needs ongoing academic support, homework help, or exam preparation, I work closely with them to build confidence, improve performance, and achieve measurable results.

About the lesson

My Teaching Approach

My name is Emily, and my goal as a tutor is to help students truly understand math—not just memorize steps. I create a personalized study plan for each student, based on their strengths, weaknesses, learning style, and academic goals. I also adapt my approach for students who struggle with ADHD, dyslexia, or concentration, using structured routines and engaging techniques to keep them focused and confident.

Teaching Method & Techniques
I use a mix of structured instruction and interactive strategies to make learning effective and engaging. My techniques include:

Visual aids (videos, pictures, and diagrams)

Step-by-step problem solving

Guided questions such as “What do you think comes next?”

Having students explain solutions back to me to check understanding

Games, math mazes, timed activities, and problem-solving challenges

Repetition and practice to strengthen long-term retention

Typical Lesson Structure
Lessons vary depending on the student’s level, goals, and session length, but generally include:

A short warm-up activity or review of previous material

Introduction of a new topic with a clear explanation

Guided practice, solving problems together until the student feels confident

Independent practice, where the student applies the concept on their own

A brief review or exit ticket (4–5 questions) to reinforce what was learned

If time allows, we may introduce an additional topic following the same process.

What Sets Me Apart
What makes my tutoring different is my focus on adaptability, patience, and understanding how each student learns. I don’t use a one-size-fits-all method—every lesson is adjusted to the student’s pace and needs. I focus on building confidence, encouraging critical thinking, and helping students become more independent learners.
