About Zainab
In my previous academic and professional capacity I have always ensured that I played my role to the best of my abilities in the growth and development in any capacity of the individuals whom I was working with. I started as a tutor when I was in grade 8, and so far, I have been able to learn the best practices during my 4+ years of practice – which puts students first. That is why every student is different and deserves a lesson that is interesting for them and given with a pace that is comprehensible, I want my students to feel protected and comfortable. What motivates me is when learners develop their abilities and earn their confidence while learning under individual instructions. It helps that I understand that when creating the learning environment, students should be cheerful, relaxed and free to ask questions or to make mistakes, as it is the way to progress. I am currently a volunteer teacher with a little over 2-year working experiences teaching general skills in planning lessons from the classroom. For instance, I ensure I lay emphasis on comprehensiveness of concepts and at the same time ensure that the learners are not quartered down by the materials. My emphasis on active and easily understandable techniques helps me a lot, as I am always searching for different approaches in teaching Math and English for students of 1st – 8th grades.

I find it very important to establish good ground in the fundamental area before proceeding with the complexities. I used an interpersonal style of classroom management because this focus on the learner allows for it to be student centered. The approach that I prefer is more engaging – the use of models, examples, and problems at the board with an intent to explain the subject in as simple terms as possible. While working with children, it is crucial to make lessons as playful as possible so I use games and activities a lot. I also make a lot of use of feedback, and urge the students to ask questions and to be as active as possible. Pre-teaching activity involves revision of previous material so that when starting a new lesson the teacher is confident that the preceding lessons were understood by the learners. Next, I present the new concept or topic at hand and the processes through which it can be taken into little sections. I employ examples and interactions as a way of presenting the content, then guided practice in which students can practice what they have learned. Towards the end of the lesson, I set students practical assignments or home assignments in order to avail the lesson’s teachings. I conclude by reiterating important concepts taught and upcoming work to be covered. I believe that I am quite understanding of the younger students and I am familiar with most of their issues. I gauge the current curriculum and the expectations of the students which supports in influencing the lessons appropriately. Also, I am a patient, versatile person that can easily establish an environment for learning, a friendly environment for the students. Consciously I try to maintain balance between making a lesson interesting which encourages students to learn and ensuring that the basics are well understood. I mostly teach Mathematics and English to students in Grade 1 to Grade 8 which makes my lessons suitable for elementary and Middle School children. If students require assistance in multiplication, addition, and subtraction or with solving problems elaborated in a word, writing essays, solving a comprehension question, or even in areas related to grammar, I ensure that I follow the learning needs of the students. I also help those students with learning difficulties as some students may lag behind in the class content and others may wish to be challenged to learn more complex content than what they are currently in.
