About Jonathan

Jonathan graduated from Hull University in 2000 with a 2:1 BA (hons) degree in Business Management and has an extensive list of students who went on to improve their grades in English Literature and Language A Levels and GCSEs after their classes with him. He has many years’ experience, with A level History, Economics and Geography and Politics with all exam boards taught. Jonathan is SEN qualified and makes sure each student is comfortable in class; he has a great ability to build a rapport with all students. After 17 years of teaching, he still has the passion required to help students be the best they can. Jonathan's classes are productive, professional, and useful and, also, enjoyable. I am trusted with talking to parents to get them onboard with the schools and companies I work for. This is so important and an honourable position as I am the first point of contact for prospective clients.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak the language fluently and I am from England so it was my first language. After being at school, I realised through my love of words and learning that I wanted to do this as a career. I had 1 teacher, Santoch who was so inspiring and that taught me how to be and the fact that I still remember him after all this time shows that what happens at school shapes the student for life.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Well I have to say William Shakespeare as I am English. The amount of words and phrases h used/invented are still used to this day/I love teaching Shakespeare and I think this passion comes over in my classes.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I love teaching idioms such as, Over the moon and a piece of cake as when people hear them they get so confused but when it is explained they find out that they themselves have idioms in their language too.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

It is an internation language and gives people who speak it a better opportunity to travel the world and do well in international business.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Pronunciation is often difficult as, along with many languages there are grammar rules to teach, there is normally an exception to the rule and this takes time to learn.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

Well I was teaching a young girl and we were teaching and learning essay structure. Well, I said "what structure do you use for emails", in which she replied "emails oh no way i am not 50 years old" ha ha, bless her.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I have been to 60 countries in he world and taught and lived in many places. Every place has had a positive effect on me and my teaching. Get out in the world is a great piece of advise from many people.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I have a master level of understanding and i can build a rapport with all of my students. Knowledge alone does not make a Superprof but learning how to diversify classes to each invidual and bespoking them to actually help the student is key. Sometimes i will have 5 students doing the same exam but I would have to teach the class 5 different ways depending on their strengths and their personality.
