About Elizabeth

I began tutoring in Year 11 when I helped a student prepare for their 11+ English exam. Having gone through the 11+ myself, I understood the challenges and the importance of strong literacy skills in securing a place at a grammar school. The support I received made a huge difference in my own journey, and I wanted to provide that same guidance to others. Now, as a university student, I tutor English from KS2 to GCSE, with a focus on 11+ preparation. My lessons are designed to improve reading comprehension, creative writing, grammar, and exam techniques, all tailored to each student’s needs. With engaging and structured sessions, I aim to boost confidence and help students reach their full potential.

About the lesson

My English lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs, focusing on key areas like reading comprehension, SPAG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar), analysis, and creative writing. A typical lesson starts with a quick review of previous work, followed by focused practice on the main topic. I walk students through examples of comprehension questions, help them refine their SPAG skills, and guide them in analyzing texts to uncover deeper meanings. For creative writing, I assist students with developing their ideas, structuring their stories, and improving their writing style. For 11+ students, I incorporate timed practice questions, mock exams, and exam-specific techniques to boost their confidence and readiness. If requested, I set homework based on our lessons, which I mark and go over in detail to ensure progress. With a balanced approach to all aspects of English, my lessons help students gain both skills and confidence to succeed in their exams.
