Because I am an active classroom teacher, you can be confident that: I am state-certified in Special Education (GACE 081 & 082). I have current, hands-on experience with today’s reading and writing standards. I am accustomed to working with parents, IEP teams, and school staff in a professional, collaborative way. I am also pursuing a Master’s in Special Education, which keeps me up to date on evidence-based practices in literacy instruction. About the lesson

Hello! I’m Doris, a certified K–5 Special Education teacher and reading/writing tutor. I help children who are struggling with reading and writing move from feeling frustrated and “stuck” to feeling proud, capable, and confident.

I currently teach Special Education in an elementary school, so I work every day with students who have a wide range of abilities, learning styles, and needs. I’m trained in phonics-based instruction, reading comprehension strategies, and written expression, and I specialize in breaking skills down into small, manageable steps that make sense to kids.

What I offer your child:

Foundational Reading Skills
Phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, and vocabulary are taught in a clear, structured way.

Reading Comprehension Support
We practice thinking while reading—retelling, making inferences, identifying the main idea, and answering questions in complete sentences.

️ Writing Support
From forming letters and sentences to organizing paragraphs and stories, I guide your child through planning, drafting, and revising.

Support for Learning Differences
As a Special Education teacher, I’m experienced with students who have IEPs, learning disabilities, ADHD, and other learning differences. I’m patient, encouraging, and always focused on what your child can do and how to build from there.

Personalized, Family-Focused Approach
I start by getting to know your child—what they enjoy, what feels hard, and what goals you have as a parent. Then I design lessons that are engaging, structured, and tailored to their level, with gentle accountability and lots of encouragement. I can also share simple strategies you can use at home to keep progress going between sessions.
