About Ciara
So I am a recent graduate from a Creative Industries Research Masters with a distinction. I have always loved everything about dance- I have vivid memories from when I was 4 jumping on stage, twirling around while staff try to get me off! I don’t do this very often now! It’s important to remember dance is for everyone, it’s an opportunity to be expressive, creative and silly. Since I was 16 I have had the privilege to teach so many ages! I first started by creating a year 7 and 8 dance club for students to get stuck in and learn fun choreography to perform to their parents at the end of year show. During my 4 years of university I was the community dance activator for the University so I encouraged students to teach after school dance clubs to schools all around Portsmouth. During this time I was also teaching dance to students as an extracurricular activity and coaching for the competition squad for two years! In both years we have placed in every national competition. I am so passionate about helping improve students confidence in themselves and to help them find their own aesthetic. I remember when I learnt dance at GCSE and A-Level, I remember always thinking I wasn’t good enough because I never exceeded in ballet like the other girls, they would choreograph and perform as though they were weightless, whereas I would always choreograph grounded movements that were more abstract and quirky. However because I was different, I was able to appreciate my own aesthetic and this helped me push to where I am today! So I want to help students like you to embrace your own rhythm and aesthetic!

Let’s start by sharing what I can offer you. If you need support with Dance as your subject at school, whether that be at GCSE, B-Tech, A-Level or Postgraduate, I’ll be here to help develop your understanding of the curriculum and support you in getting the best marks you can. I graduated with a First in my Drama and Performance BHons and with a Distinction in my Creative Industries MRes in which I developed expertise in dance education, dance in gender and dance history. With this under my belt I will be able to help improve your writing for school so you’re ready for your exams and assessments! However if you are wanting practical based tutoring I offer exciting and fun workshops that will help improve your own aesthetic as an artist. My aim is to be always adapting my lessons to you so you can the most out of each one. So each week I make opportunities for us to discuss what you want to do and what you like and don’t like! I never take offence as at the end of the day this is all for you! For example, we can learn case studies, we can choreograph together, and we can improve technique! I am currently a choreographer for the dance competition squad for the University of Portsmouth and have been for two years! It brings me so much pride to create works for dancers that take the choreography and run with it! Last year we came second and first in two National competitions and this year we have placed second and still have two more comps to attend!!
