About Holly

Hello! I'm Mrs. Holly, a certified Elementary Education teacher with both M.S. and B.S. degrees in Elementary Education (K-6).

With 24 years of experience teaching 1st and 3rd grade, I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students, including gifted learners, those in special education, and newcomers. Additionally, I have experience as a reading coach, where I supported teachers in enhancing literacy instruction. I am trained in both Orton-Gillingham (OG) and LETRS, equipping me with research-based strategies to support foundational reading skills and structured literacy.

I have over four years of online ESL teaching experience with VIPKid, where I taught nearly 6,000 classes and maintained a 5-star rating. I love connecting with students worldwide, building their confidence, and creating a positive mindset about learning English. My students ranged in age from 4 to 12 years old.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, watching my 10-year-old son play basketball, and spending time with my three cats and three dogs. I am a patient, expressive teacher with a big smile and would be honored to be part of your child’s English learning journey!

About the lesson

I teach beginning readers in kindergarten through 2nd grade using the Orton-Gillingham 3-part drill—a proven, multi-sensory approach that helps children connect sounds and letters:

Visual drill: See letter patterns and say their sounds.
Auditory drill: Hear a sound and write the matching pattern using tools like sand or bumpy paper.
Blending drill: Blend sounds to read full words.

Next, we do word and sentence dictation to build spelling, phonics, and writing skills. These fun, structured lessons help young learners gain confidence and build strong reading foundations.

For my ESL classes, I provide engaging, tailored lessons to build students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

For beginners: We’ll focus on ABC’s, learning to read, pronunciation, and introductions.
For intermediate learners: We’ll focus on speaking, listening, reading, vocabulary, pronouns, pronunciation, grammar, etc.
For advanced learners: We’ll focus on expanding your vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, idioms, etc.

During our first meeting, I will assess your child's current English skills to create a personalized learning plan for them.

Each class starts and ends with casual conversation to make the experience more personal and boost confidence. My goal is to create a positive and supportive environment where your child can thrive.
