About John
I love to teach. I have taught English to people who speak other languages from kindergarten to adults. I love to laugh with you, to answer your questions about English, to give you the language tools for success. I taught as a bilingual English/Spanish teacher, became Director of Language Studies in a large school district, taught eikaiwa in Japan to students of all ages, have long experience with Japanese learners, whether in the US or Japan, who are students, parents, or corporate managers.

If you have difficulty understanding English, my teaching is clearly spoken at your current level. In Spanish and Japanese I can explain words and grammar when needed. I focus on topics that students enjoy and questions that students ask. All of my students have some knowledge of English but want to speak more naturally. Some need professional workplace English. Some enjoy talking about their families, trips, and friends. I have coached students for eiken proficiency tests. I make notes and send you new words and phrases we used during the lesson. For those who are fluent already, I have a masters degree in linguistics and can teach you to pronounce the hardest sounds in English. I currently teach students living in New York, Texas, California, and Japan.
