About A
My degree (Kings London), Masters (Cambridge) and PhD (London) were all in Biological sciences focusing on vaccine design. I remain a College fellow with extensive university links throughout Cambridge. I have two daughters now in London. One did sciences in the IB, the other sciences at A level. As a qualified careers leader in a competitive Cambridge independent school I also advise on GCSE/A level choices and university applications. As a tutor to years 7-13 over the last 12 years I fully recognise the demands on young people's time and the need to fit tutoring around life's ‘other’ demands! I have been tutoring in person and online for the last 13 years both UK students and those from abroad (my recent school included boarding students). I retired from my last teaching position in the summer of 2026 to focus on tutoring; I have a large degree of flexibility with timing.

Prior to teaching I worked for Cambridge University; I enjoy linking GCSE and A level topics to wider concepts. Biology is often about understanding the ‘bigger picture’ and then filling in the details. These details get you the marks needed for high grades and we practise this through fun exercises first and then past paper questions.
With an interest in Autism and ADHD I have undertaken additional training in these areas. I like to teach material in more than one way, videos, games, notes as we all learn differently. I like to build a relationship with students so they don't feel embarrassed to ask questions. Lessons should be a safe space for those questions you don't feel able to ask in lessons. I have also had additional training for the AQA synoptic essay and practical endorsement to accompany recent responsibility for this.
