About Kris
Growing up in Montreal, I experienced firsthand the challenge of learning French as a child of newly immigrated parents who didn’t speak a word of it. I remember how difficult it was to keep up in elementary school and how isolating it felt when I couldn’t fully express myself. However, through tenacity, patience, and years of self-learning, I gradually built my confidence and became fluent. Now, as a UBC science graduate with strong proficiency in French, I want to help other students, especially elementary and high school learners, avoid the struggles I once faced. Whether you are just starting out or trying to strengthen their French fundamentals, I create a supportive and encouraging environment that builds both skill and confidence. I’ve previously helped elementary students and English-dominant high schoolers improve their understanding of French, guiding them from confusion to clarity. My goal is not just to teach grammar and vocabulary, but to show students that learning French is possible and even enjoyable when approached with the right mindset and consistency. With empathy, patience, and a strong foundation-based approach, I’m here to help every student reach the same destination I once did: fluency through perseverance.

As a tutor, I believe that building a strong foundation is the key to lasting language confidence. My lessons focus first on the basics and fundamentals, including pronunciation, essential vocabulary, and grammar structure, before gradually introducing sentence writing, translation, and conversational practice. I tailor each session to the student’s learning pace and interests, making sure they feel comfortable and motivated. I use a mix of interactive exercises, short dialogues, and real-life examples to help students understand how French works in daily use, not just in textbooks.
