About Laurel

Hi! I'm a violin tutor with over 10 years of experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Violin Performance. I specialize in working with young children and love using playful, creative ways to introduce them to music. My lessons are filled with storytelling, rhythm games, and movement activities that help children connect with the violin in a fun and natural way. I use simple melodies to teach technique, helping students build strong foundations without feeling overwhelmed. My teaching is inspired by both the Suzuki and Kodály methods, blending structure with imagination. I believe learning the violin should feel like a joyful adventure, not a chore. Each lesson is designed to match the child’s energy and curiosity. We explore sound, rhythm, and expression together, one small step at a time. I make sure every student feels heard, supported, and excited to play. Whether it's learning how to hold the bow or playing their first tune, I celebrate every milestone. Let's make music learning magical and full of joy!

About the lesson

My teaching approach for violin is centered around developing both strong technique and deep musical expression. I help students build a solid foundation in posture, bowing, fingering, and tone production. Ear training is a key part of my lessons—I train students to recognize pitch, intervals, and musical patterns with ease. This helps them play more confidently and develop a natural musical ear.

I focus on helping students express emotions through their playing, connecting deeply with each piece they learn. Whether it's a classical solo, a heartfelt worship song, or a dramatic theatre performance, I guide students in bringing the music to life. I support students who dream of performing on stage, helping them overcome stage fright and build confidence.

We work on performance skills, breathing control, and body language to shine in front of an audience. I also introduce ensemble playing and improvisation to boost creativity. For those interested in viola, cello, or erhu, I bring the same energy and clarity to each lesson. I always adapt my teaching style to match each student’s pace and passion. Every lesson is filled with encouragement, structure, and space to grow. My goal is to help students love the process of learning while becoming skilled and expressive violinists.
