About Amena

My name is Amena, and I am a passionate educator with over 15 years of experience helping students reach their full potential. My goal is to inspire confidence, nurture curiosity, and guide young people towards outstanding academic success.

I have supported many students in achieving top GCSE grades, with numerous Grade 8s and 9s, as well as A and A* results in A Level Biology. Many of my pupils have gone on to study at Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities, securing places in Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry. Their success reflects the impact that expert guidance and high-quality teaching can have on a student’s future.

As Deputy Head of Science for five years, I led the KS4 Science team and was honoured to receive the National Award for Middle Leadership from the SSAT. This recognition reflects my commitment to excellence and the positive difference I strive to make in education.

Alongside my teaching, I work as an examiner for Edexcel and AQA at both GCSE and A Level. This experience gives me valuable insight into how exams are marked and what examiners look for. I use this knowledge to help my students develop strong exam technique and approach assessments with confidence and clarity.

My academic background includes a BSc in Biology, an MSc in Health and Society: Social Epidemiology, and a PGCE in Secondary Science from University College London. I was also awarded the Eliahou Dangoor Scholarship for Excellence in 2012 in recognition of my innovative approach to teaching and learning.

Over the years, I have supported students from many leading schools, including Tiffin Girls School, QE Boys, Westminster School, Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, Watford Grammar School, St Helen’s School (Northwood), St Margaret’s School (Bushey), Streatham and Clapham High School, The Jewish Free School, St Dominic’s Sixth Form College, Wallington Girls’ School, Eden Girls’ School (Slough), MPW (Birmingham).

About the lesson

My lessons are carefully structured to help students build deep understanding, confidence, and strong exam technique. Drawing on the latest research into how students learn best, I use approaches such as retrieval practice, metacognition, and scaffolding to make complex ideas accessible and memorable.

Each session is engaging and focused, breaking down challenging concepts into manageable steps. Students have access to high-quality resources, including worksheets, revision guides, and past papers, all aligned with their school curriculum.

As an examiner for Edexcel and AQA, I offer unique insight into how marks are awarded, helping students refine their exam strategy and avoid common mistakes. Alongside this, I place strong emphasis on maths skills, which can make up around 30% of science exams, and on mastering core practicals, which account for a further 15%. These elements are woven naturally into lessons, ensuring students are fully prepared for every aspect of their assessment.

Regular feedback and tailored support help each student progress at their own pace, with additional guidance for those with specific learning needs. My goal is for every student to leave each lesson feeling more confident, capable, and ready to succeed.
