About Florencia

I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina and then lived and worked in the United States for over thirty years. During my undergraduate studies in Argentina, I earned an Associate Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from St. Catherine's School, the first International Baccalaureate (IB) private institution in my home country.
I earned my teacher certification at Texas A&M in December 2015, and I completed my Master of Arts in Spanish from the University of Texas A&M-Commerce in May 2018.

My areas of interest include Pedagogy, Teaching Methodology and Curriculum Design. Spanish teaching for Foreign Language Learners with a concentration on Spanish Heritage Learners.

My language teaching experience comes from initially teaching English in Argentina, and thereafter teaching Spanish in the United States at the university level, where I had the chance to enhance and fine-tune my teaching expertise. Since 1995, I taught Spanish as a full time/adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin, Temple University in Philadelphia, North Georgia College and State University, Kennesaw University, Montgomery County Community College, Bucks Community College, and Chestnut Hill College. For 6 years, I lived in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and greatly benefitted from the exposure to yet another language and culture. After my return to the United States in 2014, I was appointed as a substitute teacher at Rockwall ISD, worked 2 years as a K-12 Language teacher in a private high school in Rockwall, and thereafter, three years as a Spanish teacher at a public High School near Dallas.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy is based on students communicating in the target language and teaching functional content in order for students to understand the importance of using the language in a practical way in real life situation

I help student motivation by creating original ways of learning, either by movies, songs or games that are fun and conducive of learning as well as age appropriate.
I also get to know the students, and I provide learning opportunities that reflect their interests and goals
