About Barnaby

I am a graduate of Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of York. I am currently on a gap year before undertaking an MSc in Economics at the University of Amsterdam next year with plans to ultimately pursue academia in later life. I am passionate about Economics and the social sciences having a wealth of theoretical, mathematical and intuitive understanding in support.

For Maths tutoring:

I am available to tutor GCSE maths for the exam boards Edexcel and AQA. I attained an A* in GCSE Mathematics and thus understand what it takes to achieve the top grades or simply to improve. I have employed Maths in my degree due to specialising in Macroeconomics and Econometrics, hence I have deep understanding in areas such as calculus and statistics.

Achieving a good GCSE grade in Mathematics is more than memorisation and practice; it also demands understanding and passion. With personally crafted lessons I can inspire passion in Maths and the intuition that is needed to help you sail through the exam season. I am a patient and kind tutor who will help you succeed.

For Economics:

I am available for A Level tutoring in Economics for the exam boards AQA and OCR. As a specialist in Economics, I understand thoroughly how to conquer A Level Economics. Succeeding in Economics A Level requires a combination of theoretical understanding, ability to write essays effectively, integrate diagrams into essays for intuition and exam performance.

Theory:

This is the most fundamental part of succeeding in A Level Economics and must come first. This, however, is more than simply memorisation and requires time and patience for the deepest understanding. I can help by slowly explaining specific concepts intuitively.

Essays:

Many students are daunted by the 25-mark question at the end of the paper. This again can easily be overcome with practice and understanding. I have thorough understanding in essay writing due to the interdisciplinary nature of my degree; I have written essays on Hegelian Philosophy and Critical Marxism achieving the highest marks in the year. Hence, through my lessons you will be able to enjoy writing concise essays knowing the purpose of what you are writing.

Diagrams:

Diagrams can be confusing. They are often taught in confusing ways at school. They are, though, intrinsic to economic theory in showing how certain factors affect others and allowing one to see what the dynamics of an economy look like. Hence I will teach diagrams slowly and in relation to the content such that they make sense.

Personally I am an enthusiastic, patient and understanding tutor with experience with close family and friends. I am passionate about Maths, Economics and academia in general which I hope will be shared in my lessons.
