About Ren

I have over 10 years of experience teaching violin, with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Violin Studies. My background includes solo, chamber, and orchestral performance, which gives me a well-rounded approach to teaching. I specialize in preparing students for auditions, especially for youth orchestras and music conservatories. Together, we focus on building strong stage presence and mastering advanced repertoire with confident interpretation. I’ve worked with high school performers, conservatory students, and competition entrants, helping each reach their full potential. About the lesson

My teaching approach centers on fostering creativity and freedom in violin improvisation, especially in non-classical styles like jazz, folk, and world music. I guide students through creating melodies over chord changes, helping them develop a unique and personal improvisational voice. We focus on exploring musical intuition and encouraging spontaneous expression. I use a mix of listening exercises, call-and-response techniques, and practical jam sessions to build confidence. I'm especially skilled at supporting students like The Worship Singer and The Musical Theatre Enthusiast, helping them bring more depth and emotion to their playing. Together, we break down complex ideas into simple, approachable steps. You'll learn how to feel the music and respond naturally in the moment. My lessons are interactive and fun, with plenty of space for experimentation. I push you to take risks and trust your instincts. We’ll unlock your inner jazz or folk fiddler and bring your music to life. Each session builds your skills and expands your musical vocabulary.
