About Helena
Hello! I’m Helena — a passionate and patient English tutor who loves helping students discover the joy and confidence that comes from expressing themselves clearly. I achieved A grades in both English Literature and Language at A Level* and hold a First-Class degree in International History and Politics from the University of Leeds, where I developed a deep appreciation for storytelling, communication, and critical thinking. I’ve always been drawn to language — whether through reading, creative writing, or helping others find their own voice. My experience working with children and young people, alongside my academic background, has given me a calm, encouraging approach that helps students feel supported and capable. I want my lessons to be more than just about passing exams; I want students to feel genuinely inspired by words and ideas. Whether I’m helping a primary school pupil build confidence in reading or guiding a university student through essay structure, I take pride in adapting my teaching to meet each learner where they are — with patience, creativity, and enthusiasm. Teaching allows me to combine my love of language with my desire to make learning enjoyable and empowering. My goal is to help every student I work with feel proud of their progress and confident in their abilities.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, whether they’re preparing for exams, building confidence in reading and writing, or refining their creative or academic voice. I believe that learning English should feel inspiring and engaging — not intimidating — so I aim to create a calm, encouraging space where students can explore ideas, ask questions freely, and develop lasting skills. A typical session lasts around 60 minutes, combining reading, discussion, and writing practice. For younger learners, I make lessons interactive and creative to keep them motivated, while older students and adults can expect structured support with essay writing, analysis, and exam preparation. I achieved A grades in both English Literature and Language A Levels* and hold a First-Class degree in the arts and humanities, which underpins my strong understanding of language, storytelling, and communication. I’ve supported students from primary through to degree level, helping them improve clarity, confidence, and creativity in their writing. I work collaboratively with both students and, where appropriate, their parents to ensure that each learner is being supported in the way that best suits them. Together, we’ll identify their goals, learning style, and areas for growth — building a tailored approach that nurtures both skill and confidence. My approach blends analytical rigour with creativity — helping learners to not only understand the texts they study but to find their own voice within them.
