About Anna

I have experience setting up lesson plans and working alongside a variety of students to encourage students’ learning in specific subjects. My two degrees focused on language taught me how to unpick different styles of writing and how to learn and employ new narrative devices, tones and vocabulary. I am confident that my time studying and working and developing my skills will serve students of all ages.

My time volunteering with the Canaan Project over the last few years has helped me effectively communicate with students of all ages. This was a wonderful experience where I learned how to set aside my own preoccupations and invest in this community. We learned about nuanced issues and talked through difficult topics. The young ladies I got to chat to every week were silly, smart, and inspiring. I got to listen to the girls discuss various topics, ranging from their mental health struggles to their musings on the latest TikTok star.

My people skills were sharpened through the time I spent volunteering, working as a waitress and as a student fundraiser. These different projects and jobs helped me become attuned to the way conversations shift and alter. I learned how to adjust what I was saying according to what people were suggesting with their tone or outright demanding.

My time working at the university newspaper and magazine encouraged me to pursue journalism through my postgraduate course. My MA in newspaper journalism taught me how to mould great ideas into cohesive pieces of writing and how to accept useful criticism and work alongside others to produce something worthwhile. The course also taught me how to organise myself in unusual situations, how to listen and how to think critically.

Since then I have worked as a freelance journalist, attending London Film Festival three times as a film critic. I am an adept, careful writer that consistently provides clean copy. I could easily teach how to write effective news articles as well as academic essays.
