About Mia
My name is Mia and I am an undergraduate at the University of York, studying English Literature. Currently, during the holidays I have been working as a Playworker at children’s holiday clubs and within the preschool. This has been a wonderful opportunity to work with young children and understand how to cultivate the right learning conditions best to suit each child and ensure that there is always fun in each element of learning. I firmly believe that where there is fun there is a passion and want to learn! At A level I achieved an A* in English Literature, an A* in Philosophy and religion and an A in Geography which awarded me with an academic excellence scholarship. The enthusiasm and passion shown to me by my previous teachers has inspired me to not only continue studying English, but to help other students not only understand, but enjoy the subject as I firmly believe that it is half the battle. English Literature does not have to be boring and mundane as some teachers may set it out, which is why I want to illuminate a fun and interactive way of teaching, so that students can gain genuine enjoyment and build their confidence in the subject which in turn, yields positive results in the subject. Prior to this, I have helped many GCSE students within my school on the lead up to their exams who performed excellently after helping them to realise that Shakespeare really isn't as mad as he seems! Perfect! My son has already had some lessons with Mia. He used to dislike English Literature, but now I found him a bit of change with only a few lessons. She is very encouraging to my son, he loves the lessons with her. Will continue definitely.
