About Anna

I have experience tutoring school peers during breaks and after school, I volunteered as a classroom assistant for primary years, helping to develop their basic skills. I recently assisted a work colleague obtain their Higher English Qualification. Although I may not have much experience as a professional tutor, I have been helping people to learn my whole life, I am approachable, a good listener and a lover of my subject. I am confident I could make a big difference in your understanding of English.

About the lesson

Hello future and fellow Student!

My name is Anna, I'm 20 years old and I'm an English Literature Student based in Glasgow. Hopefully after having a read over my ad you will feel compelled to get in touch and book your first session, see you there!

My Philosophy:

Although I acknowledge that students aiming to pass exams are assessed according to criteria that applies to all, I want to make the distinction that the process by which a student obtains the goal of Advanced Higher, Higher or National 4/5 English is entirely unique to them. My lessons, therefore, are bespoke and use my materials for approaching areas of the curriculum, adjusted to how you learn best.

Initial Session:
Your initial meeting is FREE! During this I would hope we could:

- Get to know each other- are we a good fit?
- Discuss current approach identify strengths and weaknesses.
- Discuss how you learn best and what you would like to achieve from our sessions.
- Identify goals
- Agree schedule
- Plan materials for next session.

A typical lesson:
For example the lesson is regarding how to approach close reading.

First:

- Identify areas where you feel uncertainty.
- Discuss your current approach to identify where the problems are.

Second:

- We consult my step by step guide (I will have sent this to you ahead of time.)
- We discuss the guide ensure you are understanding the material and if not identify how the resource could be amended for your application.

Third- Reading:

- We go through some examples together prepared by me.
- We consult the step by step guide to approach the examples (put it into practice.)

Fourth- Writing

- Discuss how to express our answer for our marker?
- How long should our answer be, where are we getting the marks?

Lesson is followed up with constructive feedback from session and exercises for you to do on your on, if you feel it would be helpful, which I am happy to mark.

Learning to critically read enriches our life because it opens the door to a greater understanding of people and how we each uniquely experience the world.

Your first session with me is free, from then on I charge £20 for the hour, I feel this rate is justified due to the preparation required for a session as well as the resources and editing support I will provide.
