About Tracy

With over 30 years experience I have been teaching English to both British and International students. I teach all ages (from 3 years to adult) and all abilities whether your goal is to successfully pass examinations (Functional skills levels 1 & 2, GCSE, Entrance examinations to university) and/or to build on your confidence in using the English Language.
I have a BA in English and an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I am experienced in teaching English in Secondary school, College and University and have successfully taught Functional Skills Levels 1 and 2, GCSE and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to students wanting to enter university.
I lived in Japan for twenty years where I taught at Elementary, Junior High and High School. I have also taught vocational English at colleges and Business English at large Japanese corporations. Returning to the U.K. 10 years ago I taught online classes to students in Korea and private classes in students' homes both conversational, vocational and GCSE English. For the past 7 years I have taught EAP on the Hull University pre-sessional course to international students which focusses on academic reading, writing, speaking and listening. I have also successfully taught GCSE English and Functional Skills at Hull College.

About the lesson

I am deeply concerned about my students and their development and to this end I listen to and identify individual needs developing a personal learning plan which encourages learners to build on and also cultivate existing and newly acquired English skills. I enjoy developing sound and creative ideas for classroom activities making the classes interesting and highly effective for the students whatever their goals may be.
By establishing and maintaining a good rapport with all of my students through a genuine concern for, and understanding of, their needs I am able to design lessons which are more relevant, more meaningful and therefore, again, more effective.

Details

I am currently taking driving lessons so will need to use public transport should the student wish to have a home lesson. The bus fare will be added on to the lesson fee.
Should the student wish to cancel a lesson, a make up lesson will be arranged.
Cancellations must be made more than 24 hours before the lesson. If the notice given is less than 24hours the student will be required to pay a cancellation fee of £15.
