About Hazal
I am a full-time private English tutor and educational consultant based in West London. With a BA in English Language and Literature from Near East University, complemented by postgraduate studies in Comparative Literature and Philosophy at King’s College London, I provide bespoke educational support tailored to the needs of each student. With 10+ years of experience in the educational sector, including former roles as a schoolteacher, my services encompass primary education to university level and professional development. I offer both in-person and online lessons 7 days a week. My in-person lessons mainly take place in West London, e.g., Kensington, Holland Park, Hammersmith, Maida Vale, and Ealing, but I also reach students in farther locations such as Watford and New Malden. In tandem, I offer regular online tuition to students from Europe, China, and South America, easily adapting to different time zones to deliver lessons at times ranging from early morning to late evening. I usually maintain full availability during Easter, Christmas, and half-term breaks, offering students valuable continuity and support during key revision periods. Background: I graduated as the top student of my year studying BA English Language and Literature at Near East University, then matriculated at the prestigious King’s College London to study MA Comparative Literature. Stream of consciousness narratives, nonlinearity, and oral literature as a form of resistance circulate within my research interests, and I am often drawn to themes of mental imprisonment, identity, and displacement. I enjoy exploring literary pieces enmeshed with philosophy and have always been most interested in the works of Woolf, Nietzsche, Kafka, Beckett, and Adorno. Whilst working as a tutor over the past decade, I held teaching roles and acted as an educational consultant at private schools in Cyprus, covering English Language and Literature and World History at GCSE and A-level as well as IELTS and university admissions at Sixth Form. I convened book clubs and drama groups to enrich the extracurricular activities offered to students. In addition, I volunteered with a women’s organisation, helping teenagers and adults take their first steps into the English language. Having taken translation studies at the postgraduate level, I participated in government-funded cultural projects as a translator, editor, and community interpreter. I assisted in the running of seminars on domestic violence in collaboration with the former First Lady of Northern Cyprus and acclaimed international speakers, mediating cross-lingual communication. Recently, I embarked on a new project of translating the biography and memoirs of the Turkish Cypriot artist Ismet Vehit Guney, who designed the flag of Cyprus.

Over the past decade, I have extensively taught GCSE and A-level syllabi across all examination boards i.e. AQA, OCR, Eduqas, Edexcel and Cambridge. My familiarity with distinct examination structures, types of questions, and canonical texts is comprehensive. I excel in guiding students through the nuances of essay writing, ensuring their work secures full marks through a deep understanding of the texts and effective articulation of their insights. I have a wealth of experience working with students who initially scored as low as grades 1 and 2 in their GCSE English Literature and Language exams. Through targeted tutoring, I successfully guided them to achieve at least a grade 6. This marked improvement showcases my ability to elevate students’ comprehension and analytical writing significantly. Conversely, I regularly assist students who excel in English yet lack the critical finesse, understanding of literary theory, or mastery of essay structure necessary to secure A* grades. Combining in-depth knowledge of the syllabi with a focus on advanced literary analysis and essay technique, I have consistently helped students reach the pinnacle of GCSE and A-level English achievement. At all academic levels, I home in on critical thinking and writing skills and encourage students to explore their own narratives. Having first read English and subsequently Comparative Literature, I seamlessly transfer an extensive knowledge of textual information and literary theory over to secondary school and degree-level tuition. All of my previous IB students have scored 7 in English (HL), where I successfully assisted them with diverse topics, such as colonialism and identity in Kayo Chingonyi’s poetry, the intersection of music and politics in Bob Marley’s music, or the exploration of melancholia and the feminine identity in Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf particularly through the lens of Julia Kristeva’s theories.

An EXCELLENT choice if you are looking for an English tutor!
Hazal is not only an extreme knowledgeable tutor but also is incredibly patient and supportive.
My daughter, who was preparing for her 11+ entrance exams saw such a remarkable improvement under the Hazal’s guidance & instruction. .
All one-on-one sessions were tailored to my daughter’s needs, homework & follow ups were given to ensure she understood the points needed and Hazal’s teaching style was both engaging and effective. She benefited immensely & her marks in the exams reflected that.
Also, we as parents really appreciated the feedback that was given. It helped us stay informed about my daughter’s strengths & development throughout.
The overall experience was just OUTSTANDING!!
Highly highly recommend!Hazal has worked with all three of our girls, helping them mainly with English, but was there to support in other subjects too. She has great subject knowledge and is confident working with children from primary level up to A level. She was also confident helping and giving advice when it came to UCAS application and personal statement as well as with the 11+ and independent school applications. Hazal was able to see where the girls’ strengths and weaknesses lie and specifically target these areas, growing their confidence and greatly improving their attainment in English.
She built a really good relationship with all girls, especially the younger two, who were always eager to attend her lessons and never saw it as a chore. She has a great manner with children of all ages and is friendly yet firm, getting the best results out of them. She really inspired in them a love of reading and literature, helping them to access texts that they had previously been unable or unwilling to read.
Hazal was great to work with, as the PA to the family I worked with her for nearly two years. She is professional and reliable and always happy to accommodate changes in the family’s busy schedule. She was always happy to go the extra mile and spend time relaying progress to both myself and the girls’ mother. She has been a fantastic tutor to work with and I would recommend her for any family looking for an English tutor.
Girls 6, 9 and 17.I have worked with Hazal whilst preparing for GCSE and A-level English literature. During the whole time, she has been a spectacular tutor, incredibly supportive and well-prepared for each lesson. Owing to her help, I’ve been able to transform my essays from level 2 to level 5 and graduate with A.
We have been working with Hazal for years, and she has been tutoring both our sons who are in primary school education. She has formed an excellent relationship with both of my kids and has been a phenomenal tutor: motivated and trustworthy, offering a wealth of expertise! Our eldest son won places at all of the private schools we applied for, and we are delighted to be working with her for our youngest son's 11+ prep.
I have came across her profile after reading her reviews on superprof. Hazal has extensive knowledge about her field and is always ready to have a discussion/explanation about a topic of matter/interest. She has a great work ethic, never cancels classes and always punctual.
She worked with my son for 6 months and helped him get into some of the best schools in London. Trustworthy and very understanding during a stressful 11+ period.
Hazal has been a phenomenal teacher and offered me incredible support throughout my English Literature AS course. Not only has her sophisticated arguments and critical perspectives helped me better understand and evaluate the texts we were studying but at the same time, the eloquence of her speech and concision of her ideas has helped elevate my writing as a whole. What Hazal has taught me goes beyond understanding and analysing the set texts, she has provided me with the skills to formulate my own arguments and to scrutinise the meaning behind different literary pieces. It is truly a pleasure to attend her lessons in which we engage in thoughtful discussions over the text and practice writing techniques.
Hazal has worked as a tutor for the family for the last 6 months and we have noticed real progress with both girls since she started.
We contacted Hazal to focus on English and 11+ preparation for a 9 year old girl attending Garden House school in Chelsea. As English is not her first language, she needed lots of support with extending her vocabulary, improving her spelling, comprehension and creative writing. From the first lesson, they had a great bond. Hazal is warm, funny but also firm when she needs to be, this means that Michelle is always keen to go to her lessons and spend time with her.
Michelle has made great progress since they started working together at the beginning of the year. Hazal is always encouraging and her teaching style motivates Michelle to try her best and work hard. They have been working with a variety of materials to help Michelle improve in all aspects of her English and also start working towards her 11+ exams. Hazal always provides a detailed progress report at the end of each month to show which areas they have focused on and what progress has been made.
Hazal has also started to work with Michelle’s elder sister in preparation for her English Literature A Level exams. She has helped her a great deal and she is also very happy with her work. She has helped her build her confidence in an area in which she was previously struggling and they will continue to work together until her final exams.Hazal has been an incredible help over the past two years! I first consulted her to seek help with a philosophy paper I was to write on the theory of the sublime. Having attained the highest mark in our cohort after having a couple of sessions with Hazal, I decided to work with her during my third year. She has been a great help while I was writing my dissertation – not only in terms of teaching English and guiding my writing but also by providing a wealth of knowledge in postcolonial theory and phenomenology, which has enriched my third-year papers. I cannot recommend her highly enough!
Hazal helped me prepare for my advanced English IB exams. She was always available and well prepared. Overall a great help!
I have been working with Haz for just over 2 months and I’ve already noticed a huge difference in my writing and ability to speak about literature; she is very patient and encourages me to share all of my ideas. We have gone over material that will help me with exams but also tips for when I’m in class which I have found extremely helpful, especially in building my confidence. Hazal is also very committed to the literature i study and she know all intertextual references that are made. I’m always looking forward to our lessons too! Overall, Hazal is truly such a good teacher and very kind person, which is more than I could’ve hoped for.
Hazal taught my son English and Verbal Reasoning. Hazal is a committed tutor who taught enthusiastically and in a manner that maintained my son’s interest. She was always so generous with her time and built a lovely relationship with my son which ensured he really enjoyed the lessons.
I was looking for someone to conduct an 11+ mock interview with my daughter, so she got used to dealing people she hasn't met before in an interview setting. Hazal did a great job in simulating a real-life interview, as I could tell later on when my daughter went through her actual 11+ interviews. She was friendly, professional and gave great feedback.
Hazal really helped me gain a new perspective on literature.
I approached Hazal in preparation for the AQA English Literature GCSE exam and she really helped me gain a new perspective on reading and analyses.
She allows me the time to read and interpret in my own pace, and after providing my initial thoughts, we go over the texts for further analysis or close reading.
Hazal is always interested in my opinions and encourages me to discuss my interpretations. I feel that my ideas are valued, yet she never pressures me into forming one either. If I feel unsure, she steers me towards an idea which I continue to develop. In addition to this, she provides me with alternative viewpoints that give me a wider outlook.
With her guidance, introducing new perspectives allows me to form more structured opinions and essays, which improve my confidence in writing. I now approach literature differently and hope to apply this knowledge in further education.
I am engaged throughout our lessons and always feel comfortable talking to Hazal. She provides an enjoyable learning experience and I highly recommend her as an English Literature GCSE tutor.Hazal has recently started tutoring my son and she has been excellent at engaging him with English. She is very knowledgeable & knows how to bring out the best in my child, especially with creative writing. Hazal is very organised and makes a great tutor.
Hazal is a highly dilligent and competent tutor with 9 years of teaching experience both in a 1-on-1 setting and as a school teacher.
Hazal is an exceptional teacher who has a gift for communication and the ability to articulate difficult concepts with ease. She is knowledgeable, professional and enthusiastic and has a passion for her subject.
I cannot recommend Hazal highly enough. A model professional who brings the best out of her learners.View more recommendations
