About Chase

My name is Chase Seely and I am an English instructor at Concordia University Irvine, where I've taught university students introductory writing for two semesters. In the fall I will be adding Vanguard University to my teaching schedule. In August I finish up my graduate work and earn a Masters in Fine Arts (MFA). I'm a published writer, with my short stories having been featured in Sonder and Aerie, two fine-arts magazines. My goals are to teach as widely as I can while I write on the side; I want to have a positive feedback-loop where the study of writing for my students informs my skill as a professional wordsmith.

My favorite part of teaching is interacting with my students one-on-one. At the end of every semester I get to talk to my freshman and see how the gift of literacy has helped them both academically and personally. That is my goal: to make English intuitive and relevant in your lives.

About the lesson

Good writing is not an art. It is a skill like any other, acquired by habit and therefore accessible to everyone. To write and read well requires clearly distilled principles, practice drills and application of those guidelines. As you incorporate these simple principles of reading and writing the success will snowball. This is the basis for my instruction: adapting a practical, intuitive and no-nonsense instinct for reading and writing. To that end I have prepared PowerPoints, handouts and practice sheets, all of which you will have full access to. As well, I am fully capable of guiding you through any work you bring to me. Therefore, as we train your instincts for permanent improvement we can simultaneously resolve the challenges you face in your week-by-week schooling.

What sets me apart is my range, and dedication. If you need assistance with informative, persuasive or creative writing, I can help. If you want to read more thoroughly, I can help. If you are looking to write for admissions, read for literature courses or study for test preparations, I can help. Most of all, I truly am dedicated and I take your success seriously. I am available outside of sessions and with little notice. Likewise if you are struggling with a concept I will work tirelessly creating resources for you. I am here for you and want to see you succeed more than anything.

I would be most helpful for those at the high school or college level.
