About Alissa
I recently graduated from Pomona College with a bachelor's degree in English. I have four years of tutoring experience through several organizations, including Upward Bound and the Pomona Academy for Youth Success. Throughout my college years I was published several times in our literary magazine and participated in many creative writing events. I also was awarded a prize for my senior seminar project centered around slavery in Shakespeare's sonnets. I love helping students achieve their goals, including any type of writing from essays to poetry to college applications!

All my lessons are student-centered and student-driven. My goal is to foster curiosity and ignite a passion for literature that is often hard to achieve in traditional classrooms. A key part of this process is tailoring my lessons to each individual student's wants, needs, and learning styles. I also believe in teaching study skills that can be applied to all subjects, not just literature, to help my students become better rounded and more capable of addressing issues in future classes. My classes are for anyone with a desire to dig deep into literature, develop critical writing skills, or explore creative writing. Most of my prior tutoring experience is with middle school to high school aged children, however.
