About Ruby
I’m an experienced and passionate English teacher with a PhD in English Literature, a PGCE and almost a decade of teaching experience across further and higher education.
I have taught GCSE English Language and Literature and A-Level English Literature for many years, as well as teaching literature and literary theory to undergraduates at Queen Mary University of London. This breadth of experience means I understand not only what students need to succeed in exams, but also how to develop the deeper analytical, critical and essay-writing skills that underpin outstanding work.
I was awarded a University of London teaching prize for the clarity and comprehensiveness of my feedback. I believe that constructive feedback should do more than identify mistakes: it should show students exactly how to improve and give them the confidence to do so independently.
My PGCE has given me a strong grounding in educational strategies and personalised teaching, which I combine with my academic background and extensive classroom experience. I am particularly interested in helping students develop sophisticated interpretations, build persuasive arguments and express their ideas with clarity and confidence.
Alongside teaching, I am a published academic writer and have written both scholarly papers and opinion pieces on literature, culture and social issues, including for The i and Freedom Press.

My lessons are friendly, engaging and tailored to each student’s individual needs, whether you are looking to build confidence, strengthen your analytical skills, improve essay writing or prepare for exams.
I provide all the resources and materials you need, drawing on a substantial collection of teaching resources, model essays, texts and exam materials developed throughout my teaching career. Lessons are structured around clear goals and include plenty of opportunities to practise and develop independent thinking.
I teach remotely and provide weekly homework through Google Classroom, giving students structured support between lessons and helping them make steady progress outside our sessions.

Free 30-minute introductory consultation and mini lesson: before your first full lesson, we'll discuss your current level, exam board, target grade and areas you'd like to improve.
