About Susan
I came into teaching after being a stay-at-home mum for my three children.
My main impetus was seeing my middle child struggle with dyslexia - and having to make so much effort to succeed compared to his older brother who sailed through everything effortlessly.
I studied for my PGCE with the Open University and was then allowed to go into his school for two hours per day during their maths and literacy hours to give him one-to-one support. Once he began secondary school I was then able to apply for a role as a maths teacher in a local secondary school.
Now, having retired from teaching, I still continue to tutor privately from home.

Lessons are student-led starting with areas they identify as their weaknesses; but branching out into areas that become apparent as needing input as we progress. There is often written input from their class teachers if they are aware of the extra help being sought.
Most students ask for an hour per week; but a few go for longer or more frequent input.
I operate on a pay-as-you-go basis, so that parents can stop whenever they wish; and I try to be as flexible as possible so that holidays or illness doesn’t leave parents paying for sessions they can’t do.
I have been tutoring for at least 20 years - and initially it was a great way to inform my class teaching, as you really get to know how individuals vary in how they learn and assimilate knowledge, and gain confidence.
