  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and private tutoring?

My timeline began earlier in high school, when I developed a passion for Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. I also enjoyed competing with classmates on challenging questions, showcasing my skills in simplifying complex problems and critical thinking. It was followed by a desire to share my knowledge and help others, with informal tutoring of friends, their younger siblings, neighbours and classmates.

I was motivated by the positive impact I had on students, seeing their confidence grow and their understanding deepen as a result of helping them.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you want a little less).

I teach Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Calculus, Science, and some subjects for the foundation years of Engineering and Medicine.

I love to teach the connection between mathematics and sciences, using real-life examples to help my students visualise what they are learning.

I love playing with numbers and problem-solving, and spending a lot of my free time (if there is) challenging myself and researching as well.

I am also keen to use mindsets, mind maps, and visual aids, including diagrams, summaries, and tables, to summarise and simplify the material by the end of each topic or chapter.
  • Did you have any role models, a teacher who inspired you?

I was fortunate to have many of them, not limited to.

Mrs Lamiaa and Ms Wafaa in Maths, Ms Hanan in Chemistry and Mrs Naila in Physics.

They were passionate about their subjects and creating positive, engaging learning environments, which ignited my curiosity and fostered a lifelong love of learning. They were always offering valuable advice and support, helping me navigate academic and personal challenges, which built strong, positive relationships and created a sense of trust and belonging.

In conclusion, my teachers played a vital role in shaping my life, and their influence extended far beyond the classroom.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Deep subject knowledge: A tutor must possess a strong and accurate understanding of the subject they teach. This includes being familiar with the current curriculum and being able to answer questions confidently and clearly.

Effective communication: Successful tutors can break down complex ideas into simple, understandable terms. They also use active listening to thoroughly grasp a student's questions and concerns.

Patience and understanding: Learning is not a linear process. A good tutor remains calm, supportive, and respectful, especially when a student struggles with a concept. This fosters a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Adaptability and flexibility: Since every student learns differently, a tutor must be able to adjust their teaching methods, pacing, and approach. They can use a variety of techniques like visual aids, hands-on activities, or creative explanations to suit the students' needs.

High professional standards: This includes being reliable, punctual, and organised. A tutor should arrive prepared for each session with clear goals and materials.

Passion for the subject: A tutor who is enthusiastic about their subject can make even complex topics engaging and enjoyable. This passion is contagious and can motivate a student to become more invested in their own learning.

Positive attitude: A tutor's upbeat, personable, and encouraging demeanour can significantly boost a student's confidence and motivation. A supportive attitude can turn discouragement into resilience.

Provides constructive feedback: Effective tutors give specific, meaningful feedback that helps students grow. This can involve pointing out areas for improvement in a supportive and non-confrontational way.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I still remember when My Chemistry teacher at high school gave us a bonus, challenging question to be completed and submitted the following day, early in the morning. It was a mix of challenge and fun Iwith continuous competition between two classmatese andmen.

Another example, about my favourite subject, maths. When it was a habit in the days off before any externals, I keep practising and solving heaps of past papers and make my own notes and quotations before I went to my maths teacher for help. I can remember how I was relaxed and confident doing this.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Application Challenges: Difficulty transferring knowledge and applying mathematical and scientific concepts to real-life situations is a common problem.

Cumulative nature: Math requires building on previous concepts, so if a student misses a step, they can become confused and lost in subsequent lessons. This can lead to a shallow understanding where students memorise procedures rather than grasping fundamental principles.

Procedural vs. conceptual mastery: Many students focus on rote memorisation of procedures to pass exams. While they may be able to solve a standard problem, they often fail when presented with a slightly different situation that requires a more profound, conceptual understanding.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I found my passion for teaching through my love of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. I love reading and investigating through different resources, and at the end I am in love with summarising, modelling, mind mapping and a variety of educational resources and aides.

Joy of the Process: I am enjoying the journey of learning and discovery, not just the successful outcome.

Personal Connection: I am using personal stories, examples, and analogies that make the material relatable and memorable.

Modelling Learning: I am modelling a love for learning by actively researching new ideas and sharing my own learning journey.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

My passion towards the whole cycle of Education starting from making my own resources, enriching my library with valuable resources, making my own educational aids, my own worksheets, my own summaries and mind maps, showing my students how to believe in themselves and do their own stuff simply and easily, and breaking down any problems on our way, my students and I.
