About Katie
I am a current faculty member at UCLA and teach both physiology and pedagogy. I have significant training and expertise in the most effective teaching methods as well as extensive knowledge of many different life science disciplines. I received a Bachelors degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Psychology from Boston University and a PhD from UCLA in Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology. Most of my research experience is also in neuroscience and cell and molecular biology. As much as I love science, however, teaching is really my true passion and my main job now is to teach new educators about effective teaching strategies. I have won prestigious teaching awards and conduct workshops and webinars on a national scale. I am very effective at online teaching so could do in person or online. I hope that I’ll be able to help support you in your learning and success because I know you can do it!

I like to make learning interactive and engaging. I am very well versed in effective teaching techniques and like to work together with students to make learning a collaborative process. I am also very patient and skilled at breaking down difficult concepts in ways that make them easier to understand. I like to encourage students to have a growth mindset and am encouraging and positive to help you build the confidence you need to succeed. I have received teaching awards and frequently get feedback from students about how warm, welcoming, caring, and patient I am. Equity and inclusion are particularly important to me and I believe that my approach has helped many students feel more comfortable, included and at ease.
