About Kennedy

At Kenyon College, I studied Arabic Language and Literature and worked as an Apprentice Teacher in the Arabic department. For four years, I taught beginner-level Arabic to university students and tutored one-on-one. In 2020, I received the Digital Storytelling Scholarship for my work in translation.

Since then, I have taught in many settings from schools in Lebanon to museums in Arkansas. I am now based in Chicago and work as a Community Education Instructor, primarily teaching Mental Health First Aid. In my many roles, I have taught youth ages 10-17, university students, and adults.

During my work as a museum educator, I studied how to use visual arts as an engaging and creative approach to foreign language acquisition.

About the lesson

I'm here to help you achieve your learning goals! My approach is student-centered. I design engaging and personalized lessons based on each student and their individual strengths and skillsets.

Research shows that we learn best when we engage in subjects that capture out natural interest. So during our first session, I like to learn about you: what do you care about, what makes you curious, what inspires you. Then, I create a learning path tailored to your needs. It's more effective to learn a language through the lens of your unique background and interests. I enjoy incorporating music, poetry, sports, history, movies, cooking, and more into our lessons, as best fits the student and their goals.

I teach beginning and intermediate Arabic, open to all ages. I specialize in Arabic alphabet learning, vocabulary acquisition, reading and writing in Modern Standard Arabic, and the conversational dialects of Egypt and the Levant.
