About the lesson

I am an energetic, diverse and experienced English Language, English Literature and Media Studies teacher (for the past 6 years) who has taught across KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have taught across a number of secondary schools in the Hampshire and Dorset area and am experienced with regards to teaching for and understanding a variety of exam boards - from iGCSE, Edexcel, AQA and OCR.

My experience of teaching groups of students is also varied. In the classroom, I have taught groups of up to 30 plus students and am also experienced working with smaller groups. I have also taught on a 1:1 basis, have privately tutored students at their homes and also have experience of online tutoring. As a result, I have a wide and diverse range of resources available and am able to tailor lessons appropriately towards individual students.

I pride myself on proven exam success but also on the fact that I encourage and develop confidence within the student - particularly in areas of the subject that they may struggle with. My passion for reading and literature as a whole makes me the perfect tutor when it comes down to English Literature and I am highly experienced with regards to teaching English Language - for example, grammar. Aside from teaching I am also currently writing a children's book therefore, my creativity often rubs off positively onto students with regards to having to write creatively themselves. I have prolific experience with regards to helping students with the structure of their work and also proof reading.

Before I became a teacher, I worked in programme making for the BBC - therefore, I also have the ability to teach Media Studies. With this in mind, I feel that I have anawful lot to offer a student, when it comes down to tutoring, over and above my knowledge of the subjects I am trained to teach.

I am educated to Degree level, achieving a 2:1 BA Honours in Drama and English from the University of Kent at Canterbury and I achieved my PGCE qualification from Portsmouth University.

I am a busy mum of a toddler, and I like to remain busy but with the added flexibility to be able to take care of my family. Therefore, I am highly energetic, compassionate and patient. I take my profession and my tutoring work incredibly seriously and pride myself on detailed and encouraging feedback in order to help the student progress and develop to the very best of their ability.

When I'm not tutoring, I'm running around after a little boy(!), writing, reading or spending time with friends. I am friendly, approachable and positive.

Being able to tutor online allows me the opportunity to work to the schedule that the student presents me with and I am able to teach across KS3, KS4 and KS5.
