About Rebecca

I am a positive person who absolutely loves helping people succeed, whether that means editing my friends' 10+ page papers or teaching a class of elementary schoolers a new list of vocabulary words through a silly dance.
My most relevant experiences include:
English Language Assistant: Planned and enacted engaging lessons for twelve classes of French elementary school students a week that supported students' auditory, visual, and kinetic learning
Au Pair: Provided consistent homework help, facilitated English practice, and organized fun activities for two elementary school aged kids in France
Student Success Coach at City Year Seattle: Tutored 5-7 students daily to increase reading proficiency and provided support to a 3rd-grade classroom in math, science, reading, and writing
Tutor at the Knox County Learning Center: Explained math and literacy concepts, clarified unknown words, and assisted student with work, practiced positive reinforcement, and celebrated accomplishments to empower student confidence
Kindergarten Classroom Volunteer: Mentored students one-on-one and in small groups and used creative, interactive methods to help students learn literacy and math concepts

About the lesson

I specialize in creating lessons that are dynamic, interesting, and attuned to your child's learning style. Past activities I have done with students include songs, active games, art projects, bingo, and even dances. With elementary-aged students, I believe that students learn best when they're engaged and having fun, and often that means getting up from the desk and moving around. That might mean creating a song and dance to help remember spelling words or drawing pictures to represent tough multiplication problems.
For middle and high schoolers, I walk through an assignment step-by-step with the students, asking engaging questions and trying to make assignments relevant to students' lives whenever possible.
With all students I always maintain positive energy and lots of encouragement because just knowing someone believes in your success can go a long way!
