About Phoebe

Hi! I’m Phoebe, a Psychology major at Emory University, and I’m passionate about helping students of all academic backgrounds reach their full potential. Whether you're working on essays, struggling with psychology concepts, or just need help organizing your study habits, I'm here to guide you every step of the way. I work with students of various academic needs, tailoring each lesson to suit your individual learning style. From helping younger students build foundational skills to assisting peers with advanced coursework, I create a positive, supportive, and engaging environment where learning is both effective and enjoyable. Outside of tutoring, I also offer babysitting services, where I bring a caring and compassionate approach to working with children of various needs. I create a safe, nurturing environment that focuses on making sure kids feel happy, comfortable, and cared for while also engaging them in fun, creative activities. When I’m not tutoring or babysitting, I love dancing, cooking, and exploring new places—most recently, I spent time studying abroad in Italy! My experiences traveling and connecting with people from different cultures have taught me the value of flexibility, creativity, and open-mindedness—traits I bring into both my tutoring and babysitting to make every interaction meaningful. I’m dedicated to ensuring you feel confident in your abilities, and I strive to make each session not just productive but also enjoyable. My Approach as a Tutor

As a tutor, I aim to create an environment where learning feels both engaging and empowering. My approach is rooted in a combination of psychological insight and creative problem-solving, allowing me to adapt to each student's unique needs and learning style.

Teaching Method and Techniques
I believe in an interactive and collaborative teaching style. Rather than simply providing answers, I focus on guiding students through the thought process, helping them make connections between concepts and develop critical thinking skills. I use a blend of techniques such as:

Active learning: Encouraging students to engage directly with the material through discussions, practice problems, and collaborative brainstorming.

Scaffolded support: Gradually increasing the complexity of the material so students build confidence and skills at their own pace.

Visualization: Using visual aids, diagrams, and metaphors to make complex topics easier to understand and remember, particularly in psychology.

Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson is customized to fit the student's needs, but here’s what a typical session might look like:

Check-In: A brief discussion about what the student has been working on and any challenges they’ve faced.

Review & Clarify: Going over any concepts or assignments the student needs help with, providing additional context if needed.

Active Practice: Applying concepts to practical exercises, whether it's drafting an essay, solving problems, or running through a mock exam.

Reflection: Closing with a summary of key takeaways and strategies for the student to focus on moving forward.
