About Mary

My name is Mary Josephine and I have been an embodiment guide for over 10 years. I started out in art therapy, guiding both adults and children to find their joy through expressing their own unique truth. After sitting Vipassana meditation in India I became so in tune with my body that I was able to feel my first baby’s conception. This is quite remarkable! Many women wait until a missed period or a test to confirm pregnancy. I was able to experience conception as it was happening. I have since helped many women to conceive and give birth naturally over the years - this is when I became aware of the power of sound. For women, the cervix and the larynx are a mirror image. For example, if a jaw is clenched, the cervix will also be held tight. In child-birth it is essential to remain supple, soft and willing to open. The same is true of life. Any held tension in the body will be conveyed in the voice. Our voices are powerful transmitters, conveying information about our nervous systems, as well as social information about our feelings, our desires and our perspectives. It tells a story of both culture and person-hood. I have been singing my entire life. My voice found it’s way back to me again after significant emotional trauma, granting me an understanding of how our own wellbeing and voices are powerfully connected. Even more extraordinary is the voice’s ability to heal and soothe, stimulating the vagus nerve and signalling to your parasympathetic nervous system that you are safe! Often called “rest and digest”, as opposed to “fight or flight”. Being in this restful state has enormous benefits throughout the body. I can’t wait to help you unlock the healing power of your voice, and through embodiment practices, help you gain the confidence to share your gift with others.

About the lesson

Our voices are sacred. Hi, and welcome to this wholistic perspective on singing, sound and the voice. Together we will explore how a voice is only heard when we feel safe to make sound. Great singers cast their voices from the depth of their emotion while seated in a space of contentment and power. Developing our voices is really about developing ourselves as a voice in this world. Together in class we’ll learn and practice embodiment techniques, which are pathways that strengthen our level of comfort with our own body, our emotions, the way our body works, what sensations arise - ultimately dropping out of the mind and into the body for a felt sense of safety, purpose, clarity and conviction. Being ready for your voice to be heard is everything. Your voice is so unique. It is valuable and precious. It’s coded with your experiences and memories and how you feel about yourself. Your voice is your truth. Are you ready to share your voice? Your voice is a beautiful gift. When you feel at home in your body you are able to share what you feel with others from a place of purity. When you feel comfortable with your power, you are ready to let your authenticity lead. I can’t wait to lead you on this journey to discovering the power of your voice. For some of you this will be a reclamation. We explore sound with intention. And of course, bring your favourite song or a song you are currently learning and we will lean in to crafting your powerful performance. We will also explore song writing, one of my favourite creative expressions, should our journey take us there. Looking forward to helping you amplify your presence and share your essence.
