About East York

My joy and love for learning has brought me to the world of education through a career that I am very passionate about. In the profession of teaching and in the world of education, it is important that teachers maintain a high level of professionalism.

About the lesson

I focus on building a strong rapport with students to motivate them to succeed. I provide a lot of positive encouragement, focusing on student strengths. Teaching for over ten years has given me the experience to know what works best for each subject and grade level.

A typical lesson:
- introduce the topic (activate prior knowledge, make a connection, talk about how they can use it in real life)
- a quick 2-5 minute mini lesson, student tries, I give feedback
- another 2-5 minute mini lesson, increasing in difficulty from the previous one, student tries the work, I give feedback
- work on something concrete that they can do where they apply what they learned in the lesson, I give feedback

When giving feedback - I start with 2 things I really think they did well and 1 thing they can improve on. Then, I work with the the student to go through the criteria and help them improve what they need to.
