About Kayla
As a black woman who is studying engineering, I wasn’t exposed to opportunities for tutoring. Many of my STEM teachers in high school weren’t qualified for teaching math either, or couldn’t manage the classroom which impeded on my learning. I know what it’s like to struggle through math concepts, so I want to give back to my community. I have taken calculus courses at Columbia University and Harvard University, and recognize that in order to internalize math you have to emphasize practicing concepts and consistently revisiting them. I am dedicated to this practice, and will ensure that I will always show up on time to sessions, ready to drill and review concepts!

I will create lesson plans for my students based on what they tell me they’re struggling with instead of relying on them to come to me with questions.
I tend to use videos and visual problems to keep engagement. I will live solve/work through problems by sharing my iPad screen or utilizing my board.
After each session, I send a follow up video and practice problems which are optional for the student to review to help solidify what we covered in our session.
These lessons are for grades 4-12. I have worked with students as young as 4 and the oldest being 18. I am well versed in all subjects of math.
