About Eleanor

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have taught music1-1, in group SEN settings both children and adults for 25 years. I also teach at Chethams School of Music which I have done for the past year.
I am passionate about teaching and music in education whatever age or ability.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have an up to date DBS Certificate as I work in secure settings such as Ashworth Hospital and Chethams School of Music

- Where and with whom did you train?

I trained at Chethams School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester Metropolitan University

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I belong to the Musicians Union and the Royal Society of Musicians
I was principal harpist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra from 1994 and have recently left to pursue a career in teaching because I enjoy it so much.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I currently have students from beginners to someone who is doing their grade 8 in December 2014. I recently had a theory pupil who had never done any theory but got 90/99 in 3 months! She is now doing her grade 6 piano with me. I have many pupils and have only ever had one pass, all the rest have been merits of distinctions. I have never to date had a pupil fail of which I am very proud.

About the lesson

I am an experienced music teacher and have taught l for 25 years. I teach both privately and also at Chethams School of Music where I coach one to one students but also teach improvisation and ensembles. I also teach music in SEN settings.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach harp, piano, music theory and aural from beginners to grade 8+. I also teach improvisation and harmony.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a degree in Music from the RNCM. I also have a PGCert in Music Education and a Foundation Degree in Assisting Teaching and Learning, both from MMU.

- How much do you charge?

I charge between £25-30 an hour depending on the requirements of the student.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at home and also travel to students home. I am on the border of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire so cover a wide area. I have a car and will travel.

- When are you available?

I am available all mornings and evenings except Monday

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I currently teach between the ages of 5 and 75

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I prepare students right through from those playing for leisure to grade 8, conservatoire auditions and up to grade 8 theory and aural.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I have Skype facilities for teaching those who can no travel or who are too far away

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Having done a teaching course I recognise that all students have different learning styles, needs and likes. I try very hard to progress with my students in a way that is fun but also stimulating and progressive, with realistic targets and achievements.
