About Maddee
I have a bachelor's degree in English and I have a great amount of experience teaching English to a diverse group of learners and age groups. My goal is to ensure all students are confident with reading and literacy in English and I will use the tools I have learned through my other teaching experiences to ensure that my goal and my students' goals are met. I use research-backed, engaging methods that make learning to read both effective and fun. I take a personalized approach to every student because every student learns differently and deserves a path that works just for them.

My approach is student-centered, multi-sensory, and rooted in evidence-based literacy practices. I use the Science of Reading as a foundation, blending phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension into every lesson. A typical lesson will be 30-45 minutes long and students will identify and decode short vowel words and use them in a sentence. As a warm-up, review sound and letter naming and a quick phonemic awareness activity. Next, do a phonics/word study activity where the student is introduced to a phonic pattern and write out the word. Next, the student will practice reading and decoding a book that is at their grade level. I will prompt the student with a comprehension question after reading the text. Lastly, I will introduce a new vocabulary word from the reading and have the student practice using them in sentences or do a mini-activity. I will finish up with a review of what we learned and praise effort within the lesson.
